While some updates will roll out with Android 15 later this year, the theft detection feature and others will also be available on phones running older versions of Android. The Theft Detection Lock can identify unusual movements, such as when a phone is snatched or placed on a table, and will automatically lock the screen to prevent unauthorized access. The system also monitors for suspicious activity and can lock the screen if someone attempts to remove the device from a network.
Additionally, Google is introducing a new method to lock a phone remotely. If a device falls into the wrong hands, users can visit android.com/lock, enter their phone number, and complete a security challenge to lock the device.
These features will be available later this year for devices running Android 10 and newer versions.
